Fall is my favorite time of year and I have no doubt this fall is going to be extra special! You know when you think you want something so badly but God has a different plan for you? Since November 2018 (actually for several years now), J and I have prayed for God to show us the direction he wants us to go with his football coaching career.
For the first time in 16 years, J will not be on the sideline coaching this football season! Leading up to the decision to walk away from coaching, I know both of us have felt every single emotion possible.
On January 24, 2019 my daily devotional read "...I cannot make myself acceptable to all people, and neither can you, but we can believe God will give us favor with the people He wants us involved with. Sometimes we try to have relationships with people God does not even want us to be associated with."
Over the years, I have watched my husband work endless hours trying desperately to pursue his passion of becoming a head football coach if the right opportunity presented itself. If you don't know him personally, let me mention-you're not going to find someone who will work harder than he will.
As surprising and disappointing as it was to us and to so many others in our community when an opportunity presented itself (a couple of times) right here in McKinney, and MISD Director of Athletics advised him not to apply for the position at the very place he had poured his heart and soul into for the past 13 years. All I can say is, God's plan is ALWAYS the best plan.
After reading my devotional that day, it was obvious that he was trying to have relationships with people-GOD DOES NOT EVEN WANT US TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH.
These past several months have been full of change for our family (and for so many football families close to us), but I couldn't be more proud and excited to follow the plan God has for our life.
J was presented with an amazing opportunity outside of coaching that we could have never dreamed of! It has and been such a blessing and an easy transition for our entire family!
We have lots of fun things planned this fall and to say we're excited for a new football season, would be an understatement!
Tomorrow, we're headed to cheer on an outstanding quarterback in Ennis with a group of close friends. I hope everyone has a fun weekend full of laughs. I know ours will be!
Live with what you Love,
Ashley
